Our values

What we stand for.

Six principles that decide how we price, plan, build and hand over every job.

  • Safety first

No task is so urgent that it cannot be done safely. Every site, every shift.

  • Excellence

We engineer to specification and finish to standard, then test to prove it.

  • Integrity

Transparent pricing, honest reporting and documentation our clients can rely on.

  • Reliability

We commit to programmes we can meet and stand behind the systems we hand over.

  • Innovation

We adopt proven new technology, from solar and storage to smart metering and controls.

  • Partnership

We work as an extension of our clients' teams, from first survey to final handover.

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ)

Our HSEQ Policy

DESWA Engineering (K) Limited is committed to delivering power and electrical projects without harm to people or the environment, and to the quality our clients specify. Management leads this commitment and everyone on a DESWA site shares it.

We will:

  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, standards and client requirements.
  • Identify hazards and control risks before any work starts.
  • Give our people the training, equipment and authority to stop unsafe work.
  • Prevent pollution, minimise waste and restore every site we work on.
  • Inspect, test and document our work so it performs as designed.
  • Set objectives, measure performance and keep improving.

HSEQ management system

Plan, do, check, act.

Health, safety, environment and quality run as one cycle through our ten-step project process, from survey to handover.

  1. 01

    Plan

    Assess

Site survey, risk assessment, method statements and an inspection and test plan for each project before mobilisation.

  2. 02

    Do

    Execute

Site induction, daily toolbox talks, permits to work and competent supervision on every shift.

  3. 03

    Check

    Verify

Daily site inspections, HSEQ audits, equipment checks and recorded test results.

  4. 04

    Act

    Improve

Incidents and near misses investigated, corrective actions closed out and lessons shared at project review.

Safety

Safe from the first survey to switch-on.

Controls follow the work: planned before anyone starts, enforced while work is under way and proven before anything is energised. Anyone on site can stop work that is not safe.

Panel works in full PPE

Before work

  • Risk assessment and method statements

Hazards are identified for every task and controls agreed before work starts.

  • Safe isolation

Electrical systems are isolated and proven dead before work begins, with lock-out and tag-out where applicable.

  • Permits to work

High-risk work such as live-adjacent, excavation, hot work and work at height is controlled by written permits.

During work

  • Work-at-height precautions

Harnesses, crane-assisted access and exclusion zones when working on poles and structures.

  • Lifting operations

Lift plans, inspected slings and shackles, a trained banksman and exclusion zones for every crane lift.

  • Personal protective equipment

Hard hats, reflective clothing, insulated gloves, eye protection and safety boots for all site personnel.

  • Traffic and public safety

Barriers, signage and traffic control for roadside, street lighting and public-space works.

Before energising

  • Testing before energising

Insulation, earth resistance and functional tests before any installation is put into service.

At all times

  • Incident and emergency response

Near misses and incidents are reported and investigated, and every site has an emergency plan.

Occupational health

Healthy people do safe work.

Site work is physically demanding. We look after the health and welfare of our teams as carefully as the installations they build.

  • Fit for work

Reasonable working hours, fatigue management and a zero-tolerance rule on alcohol and drugs on site.

  • First aid on every site

Trained first aiders, stocked first aid kits and a known route to the nearest health facility.

  • Heat and hydration

Drinking water, shade and rest breaks for outdoor work, with heavy tasks planned for cooler hours where possible.

  • Manual handling

Cranes, forklifts and lifting aids for heavy equipment such as transformers, cable drums and switchgear.

  • Hazardous substances

Transformer oil, battery electrolyte and chemicals stored, handled and used according to their safety data sheets.

  • Welfare facilities

Clean drinking water, sanitation and a safe rest area for site teams.

Environment

Leave every site better than we found it.

We control the waste, oil and disturbance that construction creates, and design installations that use less energy for decades. Read more about our sustainability and CSR work.

Outdoor transformer installation
  • Waste segregation

Cable offcuts, metals and packaging are separated on site and sent for recycling or licensed disposal.

  • Oil and spill control

Drip trays, spill kits and safe storage when handling transformers, generators and fuel.

  • Batteries and e-waste

Old batteries, lamps and electronic equipment are returned to licensed recyclers, never dumped.

  • Noise, dust and neighbours

Working hours, dust suppression and access planned around homes, schools and businesses.

  • Site restoration

Trenches backfilled, surfaces reinstated and every site left clean and safe at handover.

  • Efficient by design

Energy-efficient lighting, power factor correction and solar options reduce our clients' energy use and emissions.

Quality assurance

Engineered to specification. Tested to prove it.

Quality is planned into every project, not inspected in at the end. It covers design, materials, workmanship and documentation.

  1. 01

    Specification compliance

Materials and equipment are checked against the approved specification and drawings on delivery.

  2. 02

    Inspection and test plans

Each installation stage has defined hold points, inspections and sign-offs before work continues.

  3. 03

    Factory acceptance testing

Major equipment is witnessed at the factory where the project requires it, before it ships to site.

  4. 04

    Calibrated test equipment

Insulation resistance, earth resistance and continuity testers are maintained and calibrated.

  5. 05

    Documented results

Test certificates, as-built drawings and commissioning records form part of every handover.

  6. 06

    Lessons learned

Every project is reviewed at close-out so the next one is delivered better.
